[[Alrighty, it's time for everyone's favorite Scotsman to take his turn. We'll be falling back on the old 'Enterprise becomes sentient, plays matchmaker' routine. I'm not quite sure how this is going to work itself out, but I'll be playing both Scotty and the Enterprise herself. I suppose you can just post your as characters, interact for a couple posts, and then I'll step in and, dunno, lock you two into a supply closet or summat.]]

Ion storms. It was always ion storms.

Somehow, sub-atomic particles always managed to flit their way in to each and every situation and wreak havoc. It seemed to Scotty that every other week his beautiful ship was converging with parallel universes, mucking about in the past, and generally fucking with every law of physics.

Most of the time he could rectify the problem before it got too out of hand - sometimes the crew didn't even notice the difference.

But as Scotty stood there, slack-jawed staring at the computer console, he decided that today would be different.

Against the shiny white plasma screen blinked seven words in dark, stylistic text:

'Would you like to play a game?'

And yes, he really, really would.

"Mm. Another four years maybe. When you've lost the will to live." He shrugged with a grin, still flicking the switch click-click-click-click

He opened his mouth again but was interrupted by Scotty over the commlink. He jabbed a different button.

"Kirk here, Mister Scott."
3rd-Jul-2009 05:31 pm (UTC)
Scotty glanced briefly to the flashing text.

'Go on, Montgomery' it read. He swallowed nervously.

"Captain," he said. "Is Doctor McCoy there? There's been summat of a... situation. You might want ta get down here too."

This could get him in so much trouble. But, at the sound of a soft, tinkling laugh emitted from the computer console, he knew he could never have resisted.

McCoy frowned, leaning across Jim to press the intercom button on the chair.

"What kind of a 'situation'?" he asked, sharing a look with Jim. "Do I need to get a stretcher down there?

"Uhm..." Scotty ran a hand through his hair, glancing frantically around the nearly-deserted Engineering department.

'Now, now, you don't want them too</i> concerned</i>.'

"Right," he muttered. "No, doctor, nothing like that. It's just..."

He floundered momentarily.

'It would be best left to his own discretion?'

"It would be best left to your own discretion, doctor. But Captain, you might be... needed... as well."
3rd-Jul-2009 05:57 pm (UTC)
McCoy looked at Jim, brows furrowed in confusion, and shrugged.

"Alright, we're on our way." He looked up and raised an eyebrow at McCoy. "Kirk out."

He announced his departure to those on the bridge and set off straight for the turbolift, eyes narrowed with curiosity as he gave Bones a look. "Wonder what that was all about..."
3rd-Jul-2009 06:15 pm (UTC)
Scotty watched as the security screen blanked out, replacing with a view of the turbolift. He ran his fingers over the console, frowning when it failed to respond.

'I'll take over from here, Montgomery,' flashed the black text.

Meanwhile, inside the turbolift...

There was a sudden, horrible screeching sound. The lights flickered momentarily, and all control panels blanked out. No whir of power, no light humming of travel, nothing. The turbolift had stopped.
3rd-Jul-2009 06:18 pm (UTC)
McCoy frowned, looking up at the ceiling from his position against the wall.

"The hell?" Standing straight, he reached over and smacked the control panel. "Fuckin' machine."
3rd-Jul-2009 06:22 pm (UTC)
Several tiny black words scrawled across the control panel, but only for an instant.

'That's not very nice, Leonard.'

Back in Engineering...

Scotty stared at the security feed in horror. "Oh, girl, what're you doin'?"

Again came the light laughter, and Scotty swore. This definitely was not going to end well.
3rd-Jul-2009 06:28 pm (UTC)
Rolling his eyes, McCoy glared up at the security cameras.

"Very funny, Scott. Remind me of this the next time I need ta' hypospray your ass."
3rd-Jul-2009 06:31 pm (UTC)
"Ow! Goddamnit, Bones! That was my hand!" Kirk nursed it against his chest, looking sharply at the dark. With a huff, he reached out blindly to push Bones away gently.

"Lemme try," he tried to recall which button was the commlink, but resorted to pressing buttons at random before he too was hitting it with his palm.
3rd-Jul-2009 06:38 pm (UTC)
'Stop pressing buttons,' scrolled the text.

Back in Engineering, the commlink light lit up briefly.

"Uhm, Captain," Scotty said shortly. "This isn't my fault, promise! There seems to be some problems with the computer, and... well... she made me do it!"

The comm shut off on its own, leaving Scotty once again as the silent observer.
4th-Jul-2009 03:21 pm (UTC)
"Wha-?" Kirk frowned at the control panel and turned back to McCoy, who genuinely seemed not to know what was going on either.

"You gotta be kidding me," he sighed and leaned back against the wall of the turbolift, wondering what these machinations of Scotty's were.

"Something must be happening out there and they don't want us to find out about it," he reasoned. "Wait... did Scotty say 'she'?"
7th-Jul-2009 01:20 am (UTC)
McCoy rolled his eyes, leaning back against the wall. "You know, I stopped questionin' him a long time ago."

Pursing his lips, McCoy looked at Jim. "Damn it."
7th-Jul-2009 01:34 am (UTC)
The possibility of 'she' being anyone other than the Enterprise entertained Kirk for all of a minute.

He met Bones' look and let out a small sigh, "From the sounds of it, we might have a bit of a wait," he decided.

Sliding down the wall, Kirk sprawled on the floor in what was as comfortable a position as could be found in the confines of a turbolift.
